MINISTRY OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY REDUCTION – Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU)

Ministry Investigators act as a Special Provincial Constable conducting investigations
and special reviews of clients and former clients that are suspected of having committed
criminal offences under the statutes administered by the Ministry of Social Development
and Poverty Reduction and related offences under the Criminal Code of Canada. The
Ministry Investigator determines the appropriate enforcement action to be taken and
makes recommendations to the Ministry of Attorney General. Ministry Investigators also
evaluate loss prevention controls, analyze results, and prepare reports on findings with
recommendations for change to the Executive Director, Prevention and Loss
Management Services (PLMS). Ministry Investigators also conduct internal
investigations specific to the ministry.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience

• Post secondary education in criminology, law, business administration or
related field. Post secondary education could be a Degree, or Diploma or a
Certificate or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be
considered.
• Minimum of 2 years recent investigative experience, preferably in
commercial/financial crime or other serious crime. (There is flexibility with
recency)
• Experience and training in criminal law and advanced investigative techniques.
