RCMP Memorial Service – September 14, 2014

On September 8, 1935, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police unveiled the Force’s Cenotaph which is situated on the west side of Sleigh Square at “Depot” Division in Regina. At the time of the unveiling, the Cenotaph contained the names of 48 members who had died in the line of duty.

Since 1882, “Depot” has been considered the home of the Force where the majority of Force members received their basic training on this location. Therefore, it was a fitting location for this Cenotaph and an annual memorial service where the names of fallen member’s names are added to the Cenotaph. From 1874 to January 2014, 231 past member’s names are listed on the Cenotaph. The full listing of members who died on duty can be viewed here.

For this year’s annual RCMP Memorial Service, the following RCMP members were added to Cenotaph:

HONOUR ROLL REG. No. NAME

#232 55685 Constable Fabrice Georges Gevaudan

#233 49269 Constable Douglas James Larche

#234 54868 Constable Dave Joseph Ross

These three members were killed in the line of duty on June 4, 2014 while responding to a call of an armed and dangerous man in Moncton New Brunswick.

Without fear, favour or affection, RCMP members dedicate themselves to serving their country and their communities. This tradition has continued since 1873 and this dedication will continue while the Force remains in existence.
