RCMP VETERANS’ LADIES AUXILIARY (Vancouver Division) – DECEMBER REPORT
R.C.M.P. VETERANS’ LADIES AUXILIARY
(Vancouver Division)
MONTHLY REPORT
December 2019
December 5, 2019 Ladies Auxiliary Annual Christmas Luncheon: We met in the Panorama Ballroom at “Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club” in Surrey, B.C. which was decorated in a Christmas motif complete with Christmas trees. Following the singing of “O’Canada,” and introductions by Ladies Auxiliary President, Denise Martinson, and the saying of Grace, a moment’s silence was observed for those Ladies Auxiliary members who had passed away in 2019. Our Christmas buffet luncheon, with the traditional trimmings and desserts was appreciated by all, and a gift box of chocolates/nuts was presented to the “Hazelmere” catering staff as a “thank you” for their services. Following the meal, and after a toast to the Queen, R.C.M.P. Veterans’ President, Bob Underhill, brought greetings from the Vancouver Veterans’ Association, and their large donated gift basket for the draw was won by R.C.M.P. Veteran, Hugh Meiklejohn. As has been the practice for a number of years, the Ladies Auxiliary traditionally gives back to its members and guests by making up decorated baskets of Christmas goodies, etc., and this year we had a draw for twelve of these baskets, plus other items that had been donated. The event ended with the singing of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” sung in unison before we departed to prepare for the coming Christmas Holiday and New Year of 2020.
Bereavement: We sadly acknowledge that long-time Ladies Auxiliary member, Margaret Berrow, of Richmond, B.C., recently passed away. Margaret was the wife of retired R.C.M.P. Veteran, #14922, Wilf Berrow. There has been no report of a public funeral or a memorial service for Margaret, so the Ladies Auxiliary has extended its condolences to Wilf and their family.
Ladies Auxiliary Annual Dues – December 31st, 2019 Deadline: Please remember to pay your yearly dues before the end of December 2019, payable to the “R.C.M.P. All dues must be paid by December 31st to remain as Associate Members of the Vancouver Veterans’ Association for 2020. February 6, 2020 Ladies Auxiliary Luncheon/Meeting: This will be our first luncheon/meeting in 2020 (normally no meeting in January), and our guest speaker will be Honourary Member of the Vancouver Division of the R.C.M.P. Veterans’ Association, Mr. George Garrett, presenting his newest publication about his own life, titled, “Intrepid Reporter.” A reminder that.at this meeting, we will be celebrating the Auxiliary’s 84th Anniversary/Birthday (February 26, 1936) so we usually wear something red to celebrate this event, combined with Heart Month, and Valentine’s Day.
