Ric Hall’s Photo Corner
For this week, Ric Hall has selected the photo theme of “member’s children growing up surrounded by all the RCMP stuff.”
The children of a mountie growing up had its challenges with the constant transfers and the family trying to fit in with each new community. However for the children of a mountie, they were surrounded with RCMP kit and clothing that many other kids didn’t have like: police hats, strange boots, handcuffs, brown belts with long straps, red jackets, blue pants with an odd yellow strip. Sometimes, the children would take a mountie hat to school for ‘show-and-tell.’
Occasionally, they got to have a ride in a police car and visit the detachment where their Mountie parent worked. When the Musical Ride came to town the whole family would usually get a special treat of meeting members on the ride and seeing the horses up close.
Some of these children would later also become members of the Force while others decided a more traditional occupation was more desirable. Ric has received the following family photographs of member’s children wearing Force kit.

If you have photograph(s) of children wearing Force uniforms and would like to have them included in a forthcoming photo corner webpage, please contact Ric at rshall69@shaw.ca. He will scan the images and return the original back to you.
The Photo Corner webpage is one of our most popular websites as it provides a historical snapshot of the development of the Force and the contributions made by members and their families.
