Thank You and Farewell From Assistant Commissioner McDonald
Thank you and farewell from Assistant Commissioner McDonald
The RCMP and City of Surrey have announced the Surrey RCMP’s new Officer in Charge (see news release), and I am pleased to welcome Chief Superintendent Brian Edwards to the detachment.
C/Supt. Edwards has a degree in law and over 24 years of policing experience in both municipal and RCMP police services that he will bring to the residents of Surrey. For the past 11 years, he has worked in Surrey at the BC RCMP headquarters and Lower Mainland District Office where he held a variety of roles including Corporate and Client Services Officer and Officer in Charge of the Lower Mainland Integrated Teams. He was also the lead on the BC RCMP’s Surrey Contract Management Project Team, so he is well-informed on the City’s desire to move to a municipal police force. I also know him to be a dedicated, intelligent, and approachable individual. While the future of policing in Surrey is unknown at this time, I know C/Supt. Edwards hopes to be the Surrey RCMP’s Officer in Charge for many years to come.
As I announced to you in October, I was selected by the Province of BC and the RCMP to serve as the Criminal Operations Officer – Federal, Investigative Services and Organized Crime for BC. Now that your new Officer in Charge has been named, it is time for me to take on my new role.
As I prepare to leave Surrey detachment, I wish to thank all the residents and business owners of Surrey who have supported me, challenged me, and – in short – made me a better police officer.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being your Officer in Charge over the past three years. This has truly been the highlight of my policing career.
You have a fantastic team at the Surrey RCMP who will continue to work hard for you under the leadership of C/Supt. Edwards.
Sincerely,
Assistant Commissioner Dwayne McDonald
