4) Veteran Harold Feiertag photographed and submitted “Goat With Privileges”
5) Veteran Phil Juby photographed and submitted “Hit In The Eye” – Ok, if that was a tropical storm, I do not want to be in a category 5 hurricane.
56 hours without power. Just got lit up here Monday 11:30 am since 7am Sat.
Winds: The Eye of the storm pretty much went right over us. Follow-up swing was stronger than the incoming.
Sustained Speeds: 113kmh. Gusts 130km. Started Wednesday with Tropical wind coming from the south.
Hot and humid air. Swung South West, to North West on the tail.
Damage: Heavy tree damage everywhere. Corn not so bad as it was late going in the ground. Strawberries and Raspberries ruined.
Blueberries with some damage. Grain ruined in some areas. Some trailer homes turned over, as well as camper trailers.
Beech Hill Estate. 3 big trees with minor damage. Tea Roses damaged. Tomatoes minor as they were yet to be tied. Most trees have “shredded leaves” Branches and leaves everywhere. No building damage. Neighbours were out and checking if any help needed. I was able to get Brother’s generator (he got power back after 24 hours) and saved myFreezer and Refrigerator. All towns were out of power except Wolfville. Will be weeks cleaning up.
Full power restored this weekend. Here is a 25 year old maple 2 neighbours over. Yes, the wind did this……..(taken Sunday morning 10 hours after the sky cleared). .His giant pumpkins survived. He parked his two vehicles beside them to shield the wind.
6) Veteran Norman Thorpe photographed and submitted Maryiln In The Park”
7) Veteran Larry Litke submitted “Meet The Ilyushin IL-102, The Most Gorgeously Ugly Combat Jet Ever” – When we talk about combat aircraft that are so ugly they are brutishly beautiful, aircraft like the A-10, B-52 and the Mi-24 come to mind. Yet an obscure Russian close air support aircraft that lost a competition to the now notorious Sukhoi Su-25 may take the trophy for the must gorgeously ugly combat jet of all time. – check out the photographs here.
8) Veteran Ric Hall submitted “Polka Dot Warriors” – War weary, unarmed and looking like rodeo clowns, the assembly ships of the United States Army’s 8th Air Force were some of the strangest looking aircraft of the war. – Check out the photos here
9) Veteran Bill Sedler submitted “Little Known Info – Vietnam Wall” – check out the details here
10) Veteran Bruce Waite submitted “California’s Historic Drought” – check out these photos here
