Welcome to Half Way through Summer

From your executive we hope your summer is going well and that any holidays you have taken have been fun. For those with property in the interior of British Columbia we all hope your structures are safe and remain intact. What a mess. If you are a serving member or recently retired and have spent significant time in smoke-filled areas in the past five years, please talk to your doctor about breathing disorders. Forest Fire Smoke has been shown as a major contributor to lung disease and you may be entitled to a disability pension through Veterans Affairs.
My request for assistance in Support and Advocacy has been successfully answered. Thank you. The next step is some training, followed by getting involved. I am looking for a veteran named Susan in Sechelt. She spoke with me about a year ago but I do not have her contact details. She wanted to join us and I would like to include her.
Thank you to those who stepped up when a widow needed a ride. We got that done and thank you to the veteran who stepped up. And no we don’t offer that as a service because the Division does not carry that liability insurance, but, when push comes to shove we can get it done. The same applies to locating veterans who are not Association members. In my opinion, it’s about being supportive of our wider group and the reason we have an Association.
For those who know Cal Sanderson, I can confirm he is in care and being looked after. I’m sure his wife, Val, won’t mind a call asking how he is.
Also for those who know the very popular Glen Little (“Chicken”) he had a successful double lung transplant and apparently has become a poster boy for such treatment.
As for the executive we are doing what you are doing. Sleeping in and having naps. But we are looking forward to September and our next meeting. Although it’s been absolutely wonderful to meet many of you in recent weeks the venues for seeing you are always difficult. The greatest respect for those that have passed away, and one last thank you for getting us to meet again to be with your family and loved ones.
Stay safe folks, and if you are travelling, keep the rubber on the road. And stay away from big trucks. (And yes there’s a story there but I’m too embarrassed to share it).
