Old Kit

Yes old kit. That uniform you kept in memory of days past. Maybe hoping the phone would ring so you get a call to go back. Well, first off that call isn’t going to happen. Secondly, that slim body doesn’t exist any longer and the uniform doesn’t fit. Pro Tip: That blue container trunk turns into a neat grandchild gift going off to university. Line it with thin cedar, throw some wheels on the bottom, and it makes a convenient carrier for their books, clothing, bedding, electronics, etc. Plus, it turns into a spare seat, a coffee table and a conversation piece for visitors in the dorm.
‘E’ Division Used Kit Procedures
Effective June 2026
Overview
Members
1. Conduct an inventory of any issued kit that you possess at home or at work that you no longer need/use but is still serviceable.
2. Return it to your home detachment/unit consistent with local procedures.
3. Please ensure all pockets are empty. If still in original packaging or in dry cleaning bags please leave ‘as is’.
Commanders, Delegates,
1. Please implement whichever process you see fit locally to identify, collect and store used kit within your detachments/units until you are ready to ship it out for retention or destruction.
2. Please do not turn away local veterans from returning kit to a detachment. Vintage ceremonial kit is often made better than current supply and can still be useful. We
are also cognizant of MCC recommendations and ensuring our kit is disposed of properly and not left to estate sales or auctions etc.
3. Inspect the kit item to ascertain if it is still serviceable. If you aren’t sure, tie goes to the runner. Ensure it is:
a. Not damaged. Missing buttons is fine, major rips/tears/stains are not.
b. Not soiled. (Will dry cleaning take care of it?)
c. Brand new or like new condition. Polished leather is fine.
4. Ensure pockets are emptied.
5. Anything that is well worn, damaged or contaminated chemically or biologically should be separated and clearly marked for destruction.
6. If you aren’t sure contact your Warrant Officer.

Depot is currently seeking ONLY the following Ceremonial Kit items at this time:
– Red Tunics (NCO/Cst only)
– Breeches (NCO/Cst only)
– Overalls (Banana Pants) (NCO/Cst only)
– Congress Boots
– Ceremonial Belt Buckles (NCO/Cst only)
– Brown gloves
Please separate these items together and ship directly to Depot:

Please mark box or bag with some notification that this is “kit to retain”. This can include:
– Operational Kit (Issued brand new or like new) such as:
o Duty belts and pouches (Nylon or new issue versions only)
o SBA carriers and panels (Within two years issue only)
o Grey shirts
o Forage Caps (NCO and OƯicer Patterns)
o NCO/OƯicer Epaulettes (Old and new versions)
– Ceremonial Kit
o Any Officer Ceremonial Kit, especially mess kit, sword belts and tunics.
o High browns and Stetsons
o Blue Jackets
o Sam Brownes, Cross Straps, Pouches and D-Rings
o Spurs, Badges, Lanyards, unused laces etc.
– Historical/Veterans Kit
o Anything Ceremonial from above that is vintage but still functional.
o Vet’s operational kit can most likely be disposed of; too dated.
o Pea Jackets, Riding Crops, cap/collar badges, long shank spurs are worthy of
keeping.
o Likely best to send to stores so it can be sorted through and decided on.
o If you have questions, contact SM or District/Detachment SSM.
Kit or Destruction
Please continue to follow your current local procedures to have kit destroyed either locally or sent to ‘E’ Division Stores. If sending to ‘E’ Div stores, please separate kit meant for destruction from kit for reuse and mark the packaging ‘For Destruction.’
Please also:
– Clearly mark any kit that is chemically or biologically contaminated, so it is not
looked through by members or stores.
– Separate HBA/SBA panels from carriers.
– Separate any ammunition, taser cartridges, batteries, naloxone from kit.
